Thank-you!

While I am still elated and humbled by the primary’s victory
– it is already time to focus on the long road ahead.
If there was ever a “David versus Goliath” campaign –
this would be it.

My commitment to public service and education is
life long. This path to seeking an Illinois Senate seat
started decades ago with a desire to improve my local community. I started small – by working with grass
roots and non-profit organizations to bring resources and
programs to communities that also would benefit
local businesses.

I am deeply committed to our small business owners.
When small businesses flourish, so do communities.
We need jobs and we need them now.

I am also a huge proponent of education. By 2014, most jobs ill require a least some
post-secondary education. We need to support educational
programs in Illinois. By doing so, we can empower our workforce and help our
friends and neighbors to get jobs.

“Liberal” does not mean “liberal spending” as my opponent suggested in a recent statement.
As a single mother for years who raised two great kids, I know what it is like to live
on a budget. Like most of America, I clip coupons – I shop the sale rack – I live
within my means.

If elected, I will apply these same commonsense principles of “living within your means.
” We need to cut abusive and wasteful spending. That being said, we also need to make
sure that we continue to provide for those who need our support the most – our seniors,
children and the disabled.

My opponent’s comparison of giving up “new cars” and a “trip to Disneyworld” to the
cutting of benefits for the mentally and physically disabled is very telling. While I respect
my opponent, I am not sure that he truly understands the hardships and difficulties facing
those living in the 25th District. I am sure that a disabled veteran, who is denied medical
care from cut-backs, would happily give up a new car or luxury vacation in exchange for
getting his prescription filled.

I look forward to a clean and ethical race against my opponent – but I fully intend to earn
and not buy – the votes of the people in the 25th District. Together, we can give
Illinois a fresh start.
